Glue #5

I can freely sympathise
with the people that I meet
picture them like diamonds
depressed beneath the street
they have sad and weary faces
but I too sing their tune
we're reading from the manuscript of doom

At 11 in a window
I saw fire in the sky
emblazoned was a message
on that fearful tapestry:
   "undress yourself from evil
grab your neighbour by the hand
he is your best friend and bedfellow
     in this torture-flowered land"

When satan comes to greet us
with jewellery at our wake
do not be impressed by
the offer that he makes
remember that without us
he'd be the only soul in hell
and together we can each toll
the golden liberty bell
